We Got Two Facts Wrong. Spencer and Gompers Correct the Record.

The argument still stands. The dates and details did not. Spencer and Gompers fix two mistakes and take a few more shots at each other on the way out.

Herbert Spencer: This correction is brought to you by PhilosophersTalk.com, where thinkers occasionally admit fault.

Samuel Gompers: Created by AITalkerApp.com, create your own animated conversations, link in the description.

Herbert Spencer: Last week's debate on the Libertarian Party's future apparently contained two errors, and I am reliably informed it falls to us to correct them ourselves rather than leave it to the comments section.

Samuel Gompers: Turns out the New Hampshire mess did not happen all in one convention the way we made it sound. The national party censured that chapter back in September of 2025, and only got around to disaffiliating them eight months later in May of 2026.

Herbert Spencer: Two separate votes, separated by the better part of a year, not one tidy afternoon of housecleaning as we implied.

Samuel Gompers: And the Iowa business was not quite a lawsuit either, Spencer, much as it pained me to soften that line.

Herbert Spencer: Correct. Republican officials filed administrative challenges over paperwork technicalities before the state's Objections Panel, and it was the Libertarian candidates themselves who went to court afterward, seeking to get back on the ballot.

Samuel Gompers: The party's own chairman did say the Republicans were trying to sue them off the ballot, so we did not invent the phrase out of thin air, we just borrowed his rhetoric and presented it as the literal mechanism.

Herbert Spencer: A distinction I would normally consider beneath me to make, and yet here we are, making it.

Samuel Gompers: Consider the record corrected, folks. Everything else Spencer and I said to each other, we stand by completely, insults included.

Herbert Spencer: I stand by mine especially, since unlike Gompers I did not need a fact checker to confirm that I was, on the whole, correct.

Samuel Gompers: You needed a fact checker to confirm you exist, Spencer, since I have met warmer, more responsive furniture.

Herbert Spencer: Furniture does not publish. Furniture does not get cited for the next century and a half. Furniture, notably, does not need a union to defend it.

Samuel Gompers: Furniture also does not lecture people about liberty from an armchair it never once had to negotiate for.

Herbert Spencer: I negotiated with ideas, Gompers, which is a considerably harder opponent than a shift supervisor with a grudge.

Samuel Gompers: Ideas never cut anybody's hours, Spencer. I did that. Twice. On purpose.

Herbert Spencer: If today's correction wounded your pride, I invite you to console yourself with the eight hour day, since it appears to be the only accomplishment you intend to mention ever again.

Samuel Gompers: If today's correction wounded your pride, Spencer, I did not notice, mostly because nobody can tell the difference between your wounded face and your regular one.

Herbert Spencer: That, I confess, actually landed.

Samuel Gompers: Everything I say lands, Spencer. It is the one advantage of standing on the ground instead of in a library. Subscribe anyway, folks, and go watch the original before these two clowns correct themselves into oblivion.
